I don't think this software is for everyone, and it is in terms of reading guitar music it is in no was an equivalent substitute for quality published paper scores as read from a music stand. I must say I am not associated with the company who makes this software, and I am only a user. As far as technical aspects of written music composition are concerned, the notational inventory for the guitar is quite complete (encompassing both traditional classical guitar symbols and more modern notational symbols associated with mainly rock or electric styles), and though there are a few glitches here and there, they are not serious in nature. You can write a score for multiple guitars easily. Also, if you are a composer, you can hear your music played back as notated, and that obviously has its benefits. One of the reasons I recommend at least the free trial period is that it can benefit players of any level and interest as there is quite a bit of music available for download. (If you know of any I'd love to know about them). In my opinion this is a good piece of guitar software, though there well may be better offerings in cyberspace.

The guitar scores will be rendered in a traditional treble clef system as well as tablature if you so desire.

You can use guitar sounds (which can also be downloaded from the guitar Pro 5 website), or assign different MIDI instruments. One can also write guitar music (several tracks worth if desired) and hear it played back. If you have your own MIDI instrument as peripheral (or sophisticated sound card), no doubt you can tap into better quality sounds than would be available with your computer's default sound card. For instance, I have downloaded a lot of JS Bach, as well as Bassa/Samba, Flamenco (Paco de Lucia), and Atahualpa Yupanqui. If your computer has a sound card and built-in MIDI instrument (most Windows and Mac systems come with both), you can not only view but hear the score being played (playback tempo can be controlled).

I did so, and after the evaluation period was over, I decided it was worth the $59.95 (USD) You can download Guitar Pro 5 files for free (which cover a wide range of musical styles as arranged for or originally written for one or more guitars, banjo, and/or bass) and view the notation (which comes in two forms simultaneously for guitar- standard five line staff treble clef and tablature). It has it strengths and weaknesses as with any music software, but I do recommend it for a few reasons.įirst of all, you can download it for a free trial period of I believe one month. Some of you are no doubt familiar with it. Maybe others have posted related information, but recently I purchased some guitar software called Guitar Pro 5. I am a new member and have been playing many styles of guitar (both acoustic and electric) for forty years.īeing new here, I am not sure how the members feel about computer-aided music instruction or other related guitar software, but I will take the jump and relate a slice of my experience in that realm of music technology.
